It”s called the Graph API. In Facebook”s own words, “The Graph API is the primary way for apps to read and write to the Facebook social graph.” So this same information that Cambridge Analytica got, is available to many other app developers such as myself, and has been for years. Everyone who installs a Facebook app agrees to give this information away. There is no easy fix for this. But beyond that, this very same information that Cambridge Analytica used to manipulate voters on Facebook, is exactly the same technique used in advertising to manipulate people into purchasing from Facebook advertisers. People are obviously more upset when they realize their vote has been manipulated through Facebook, but no one complains about being manipulated into purchasing from Facebook advertisers.
